SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.  We're all passionate about protecting the natural world. We work hard to make Oakwood West a welcoming home for all who choose to come here from the butterflies, birds & deer to our holidaying guests.

We pledge to reach Net Zero by 2030, hopefully before, and we will continue to work to find new ways to live in harmony with nature.

Homegrown
Timber

Our holiday lodges are built & clad with timber grown, felled & harvested in our own woodland. The woods are managed to promote biodiversity & are 1/2 mile away.

Water Conservation

As a result of climate change and increased drought conditions we are taking to steps to reduce our water use and conserve water wherever we can.

We are also creating wildlife ponds to ensure the local wildlife is protected too.

We're passionate about creating native hedgerows, they're beautiful and a fantastic habitat for all kinds of wildlife.  On site you'll find newly planted & old hedgerows.

Green Energy

All our energy is responsibly sourced from renewable suppliers, and we plan to generate our own renewable electricity using solar panels from 2023.

Log burning stoves in each cottage are fuelled using firewood from our own sustainably managed woodland on site.

Wildlife Meadow

We're very proud of our wildlife meadow, it's home to many different species from bees, beetles & butterflies to the magnificent barn owls that nest at the meadow's edge.

Homemade
Charcoal

We make our own charcoal on site using traditional techniques.  We harvest the wood by hand, stack it and cook it in a kiln.  It is brilliant charcoal perfect for a BBQ on a summer's evening.

We've chosen our suppliers carefully for their eco credentials.

You'll find loo roll from Who Gives a Crap, toiletries from Splosh & a range of eco cleaning products.

You'll spot many bird boxes all around our site.  We handmake them with our own wood.  They are used by a whole range of bird from songbirds to birds of prey.
